Glen Pork

Happy Halloween!

Let me just start by saying that tonight, Riley's first experience trick-or-treating, was AWESOME. In homage to our neighborhood, Glen Park, the boy dressed up as a little piggie we named Glen Pork. His dad got in on the action with a butcher costume of the same theme. Our neighbors kind of went nuts for the boy's costume and at several houses he got extra candy or the king size bars people save for their good friends. Our little porker got spoiled!

Rilz got to trick-or-treat with lots of his buddies: Evie, Neala, Lucia, Collin, Dylan, Ellory, Jack, Nate, Fiona, Sebastian, Max, Audrey, Kiera -- too many to count! Here's one snap of Rilz with Lucia the owl, Collin the werewolf and Neala the Huckle Cat.

At first, Riley wasn't sure what he was supposed to do with his candy pail, but he soon got the hang of it and became a trick or treating fool.

However, he and Neala were confounded when one set of neighbors wouldn't open up. Neala appeared to warn the homeowners that a trick might be coming if candy weren't delivered soon. (J/K -- the kids happily pranced off to the next house.)

We visited the most popular part of the neighborhood and the houses were decked  out (like this one with a spooky pirate skip in the yard).

However, a few houses went a little too far for Riley's taste. At this one, with 4 or 5 ghouls assembled inside the garage, Riley stared for a minute then slowly backed up in utter fear. The friendly ghouls encouraged him to take candy, but he wasn't having it.

At Riley's friend Kiera's house, Rilz wanted nothing to do with Keira's dad until he took off his big bad wolf mask. Eyes wide, Riley was SPOOKED when he saw the wolf, but then relieved to recognize a friendly face. I felt a little bad for the boy -- I hope he's not traumatized! -- but I'm also glad to see he's appropriately reluctant to engage in scary situations. Let's hope he maintains that fear through college.
