Elementary

Last weekend we checked out a nearby elementary school, our first glimpse into SF public schools. The school hosted a Saturday carnival and Riley met up there with a bunch of his friends.

While Evie and his other buddies mastered the hula hoop, Riley conquered the bean bag toss.

Booya!

We didn't learn much about the school, but the carnival did highlight two promising factors: the diversity of the student body and the enthusiasm some families seem to possess for the school. Frankly, I was underwhelmed by the turnout; it seemed as though many families chose not to come. But I appreciated the warmth and sense of community the attending families brought. Also, I talked with a few parents who raved about the school, especially about the kindergarten teachers. I'm not looking forward to the process of choosing a school for Riley, but it's good to know we've got a reasonable option not too far away.

  1. Do you get to choose? I thought SF has a weird policy on public schools.
