Going solo

This week I'm going solo for the first time. Andy was home for the first week and then both of our moms stayed with us for extended periods, helping tremendously as we worked our way through the first month. But now, for the first time, I'm on my own with Riley when Andy goes to work.

Rather than succumb to the fear of being tethered to the couch with him all day, I decided to jump right in. We went out for nearly four hours, tackling a big Target trip and several other errands. When we got home, I got even more daring: I put Riley in his mei tei carrier for the first time.

This allowed him to snuggle up to me while I had both hands free to get chores done. It was liberating! It wasn't as good as having a loving caregiver I could share him with (and another pair of hands), but it got the job done.

I really missed our moms today. But, still, Riley and I managed OK.

  1. Hooooooray babywearing! Isn't having two hands THE BEST! Glad the mei tai is working for you :) (If your shoulders got at all tired, try hoisting him up so he can rest his head by your heart. I swear, I never get my kid at the same height twice!)

There are so many fun mei tai makers online. I've been really good about avoiding buying, like, all of them :)

  2. Oh - also - if he gets at all fussy (now or more likely in a few weeks) about not being able to peer out, you can either roll up the waist strap a turn or two or fold up a blanket and use it as a booster seat at the bottom to elevate him in the carrier.

  3. Okay - go here - http://www.meitaibaby.com/buildyourown.html

And go to page 4 of the fabric swatches and check them out and I think you'll figure out PDQ which one I think you'll like . . . .

    (Had I only seen this before your shower . . . )
