January beaches

We are clearly having a good January. It's only the 8th and Riley's already been to the beach twice. We hadn't plan to spend New Year's Day on the beach -- thus, no swim trunks or sand toys -- but we couldn't pass up the opportunity when we found ourselves in Santa Cruz on a gorgeous, clear day. Riley was a little shocked by the coldness of the water -- even at 73 degrees, the ocean does not warm up much in winter -- and yet, he kept running back into the surf. He was also surprised to see so much sand stick to his sunscreened legs.

Today was another gorgeous day, albeit 10 degrees cooler. This time my mom and I took him to our local beach and we remembered the sand toys. To say he loved it would be an understatement.

Riley took several breaks to appreciate the beach, sitting still and listening to the waves for up to five minutes at a time. Then he'd bust loose and run for the water. He'd run back and forth, giggling all the way.

 

We tried to keep him out of the ocean because we were sure it would be chilly. But the water almost outsmarted us at one point!

Ha ha! Don't worry, no babies were harmed in the making of this motion picture.
