Big boy firsts
When you're a kid, it seems like everything you do could be considered a "first." Lately Riley's had a few firsts that aren't usually memorialized, but for me still felt special. Each of these firsts seemed to hint at an evolution from baby to boy. Call them "big boy firsts." Or you can call them "nonsense!" but it's my blog so I get to celebrate whatever I like around here.
But he didn't seem to bothered by it. Now that's a big boy!
First sandwich
Ok, I can see you rolling your eyes over this one. But it did actually feel like a big deal to see my little guy eat a big kid's meal. Maybe it's because his diet is so restricted and he normally just eats one ingredient foods that this big sandwich seemed to represent a developmental first. For the record, it was chanterelles, spinach and goat mozzarella on a toasted whole wheat English muffin.
First kiss
Riley shares a nanny with his birthday twin, Fiona, and the two of them have gotten close. Recently they hugged each other goodbye at the end of the day, and Fiona planted a big kiss on Riley's lips. Hot stuff!
First use of "protection"
Apparently, Riley is not willing to be tied down to any one woman. When his friend Neala visited on Friday night, he decided to smooch her too (a couple of times!). But, perhaps because Daddy's taught him so much about infectious disease, this time Riley wore protection: his pacifier!
First skinned knee
Riley learned the hard way that bird chasing has consequences: the occasional skinned knee.
But he didn't seem to bothered by it. Now that's a big boy!
Yay first kiss! Looks like 2012 will be filled with lots of lovin' :)
