Rolling

And. . . we're rolling!

Bony Sloaney thrilled me tonight by rolling over for the first time, from tummy to back, to her right side. I called in Andy and Riley and we all cheered as she repeated her new skill over and over. Riley would gently roll her back to her tummy and she'd delight us once more. She snuck in a few rolls to the left too, including in this clip which Andy slowed at the key moment:

I was absolutely overjoyed tonight, both by her accomplishment and by our family being together to witness and celebrate it. I'm wholly aware of the fact that each of these "firsts" we experience is actually a "last" as we aren't having any other babies. I'm glad I know that now so I can appreciate each one of these milestones. And I do -- I am so darn proud of Sloane, turning over earlier than most babies and more than a month before her big brother did.

By the way, Sloane's reaction seemed characteristic of our mellow girl. She looked a little surprised the first couple of times she rolled over, but it seemed she was more surprised by our reaction (exuberant clapping and cheers) than her new ability. She pounded out a dozen rolls in quick succession and tried out both sides without apprehension. When she got tired of rolling, she announced her decision with a rare cry, and easily went to bed a few minutes later. That's my easy, breezy girl!
