Imposters

Anyone who knows me knows that I root, root, root for the Dodgers. But sometimes, you've also got to root for the home team. Like when you've got great seats along the foul ball line and your kid really wants to catch a ball.

Score!

Riley truly does like the Giants, but he felt a bit conflicted given that they were playing the Dodgers (and the Dodgers were killing it!). He would cheer for the Giants then whisper in my ear, "Let's go, Dodgers!" and giggle conspiratorially. He'd say, "Daddy, let's go Giants!" then whisper to Grandpa, "Yay, Dodgers!" He knew exactly how to play each one of us.

At this stage, I honestly don't think he cares which teams win; he simply enjoys the spectacle of the game. Which I get. I loved the game and while I was much more subdued than I would have been at Dodger Stadium, I was happy to root for both teams. Mostly I was happy to be with my family. For me, there's really nothing as special as watching a game with my dad and to have all three generations of us there made the game perfect.

Before the game, we enjoyed the awesome mini-field at the back of AT&T Park. I've got to hand it to the Giants; they sure know how to engage the kiddos. Riley had the best time stepping up to the plate, hitting his first homer at a major stadium (or as close as he's likely to get to one) and running the bases. You can see that a proud Grandpa enjoyed himself, too. :)

He had two at-bats with a respectable hit and then an excellent one. The first tour around the bases, he was so excited he forgot to drop the bat! The full video is below.

Let's go, Riley!

The paparazzi had to snap his photo afterward!

It was a great game (well at least for the Dodger fans among us!).
