15 months
Hello world, I'm 15-months-old!
A little over a week ago, we took Riley to the doctor for his 15-month check up. He is now 26 pounds, 7 ounces and 32 inches tall, placing him at exactly the 75th percentile for height and weight. In a perfect depiction of who he is at 15 months, Riley spent our entire visit to the doctor's office exploring. He opened every cabinet, shook everything that moved and toddled from room to room, as if doing rotations.
The doctor called him "exuberant," which is totally true. Interestingly, in other settings -- like with lots of kids -- he is quite reserved. At 15 months, it seems equally accurate to describe Riley as both engaged and shy. What a little enigma.
Another contradiction about Riley at this age, that really gets under my skin, is that this little boy who is totally attached to his mom and seems content to snuggle and kiss me all day long, also packs a brutal punch. He slaps my face and -- even worse -- head butts me like my nose is a soccer ball. I believe he means no malice as he always does it while smiling and laughing. He seems to think it's a funny game. Yeah -- violence against women is hilarious. I've met this behavior with stern looks and severe punishment -- he can't cuddle with mommy if he hits. Thankfully, it seems to be doing the trick, and the behavior is on the wane. But man alive, why do we always hurt the ones we love?
