Midwife love
Today I had my first appointment with a midwife. This was not a visit I expected to go well. When my OB/GYN informed me that I would be rotating among midwives in her practice and not spending much time with her, I was freaked. I don't want sub-par care, I want a doctor! Boy, was I misinformed. The midwife I met with today was far better prepared to answer my detailed questions than the doc was. Plus she was kind and seemed genuinely invested in my health. Since learning that I would be seeing midwives, I've read a bit about their outcomes (highly rated) and heard from friends that they deeply appreciated the opportunity to work with a midwife. I'm still interested in learning more about what distinguishes midwives from doctors. But for now, I am pretty excited about the opportunity to work with midwives and am starting to understand that I have lucked out by living in a city that so prizes this great practice.
Ha ha -- this was posted by Catherine, not Andy, although I suspect that he is coming along on the midwife front too.
