Connecticut beaches
There's no question that I am partial to all things California. By nearly every measure, I firmly believe we're the best of the best. OK, our fiscal system could use a bit of work, but you can't beat our geographic and human diversity, the spirit of innovation that runs through our state like a lightning bolt, the amazing weather and our produce -- oh, for the love of awesome produce!
But I've got to hand it to Southeastern Connecticut: your beaches are pretty amazing. [In a very hushed, conspiratorial whisper, I'll admit....] . . . they might even be better than CA beaches. Shhhhh!
These quiet, clean practically deserted beaches with their nearly white, fine grain sand have beautiful, transparent water that rolls in gently enough to allay the fears of even an anxious toddler's mom.
The beach half a mile from Riley's grandparents' house also has a toddler-friendly cove teeming with crabs of every shape and size. Riley would temporarily pluck out of the water those little suckers and the tiny snails that dotted the cove for a quick study before returning them to their habitat. He'd watch the patterns of itsy-bitsy fish schools and point to the colorful effects of algae. The cove and the larger beach combined to create one giant science lab for the boy.
Day after day, he searched for creepy crawly sea creatures, gathered seaweed, differentiated rocks by size and color and shoveled sand into the ocean.
Rilz made at least four trips to the beach while in Connecticut and loved every minute of each one.

| Riley, you can leave the fancy star glasses in California -- there's no paparazzi here! |

What a grand time for Gma and Gpa Greenstein. So glad they can enjoy him for a good period of time. The shore is beautiful. Cannot wait to see it some day.
