So Cal in August

In the second week of August, the kids and I headed to the land of sunshine for a short summer break and to throw my dear friend, Sharon's baby shower. The shower had a Vegas theme, and my mom and sister played a huge role creating the decorations, flower and games.

It was so nice to spend time with Sharon and co-host, Lara, as well as our high school friends, Shelli and Vanessa.

While the adults noshed and sipped, the boys had a great time in the pool.

After a day in the hot sun, Riley appeared desperate for a nap but insisted he was not tired; he said he just needed Jello. Knowing he was on the precipice of sleep, I told him if he waited five minutes he could have Jello. Sure enough he was asleep 30 seconds later. He awoke in an hour and, with his eyes still closed, mumbled "Jello...Jello..." he must have had delicious dreams!

We played a bit at Grandma and Grandpa's house, including with the inflatable Dodger pool toy Riley loves. (He was so proud to show me how he got stuck in it!)

But the highlight of the weekend for Rilz was a sleepover at Cousin Rene's. Rene showed him how to shoot a basket and, frankly, I was pretty impressed by both boys' ability to sink the ball.

Score!

Rene also taught Riley how to build a river, dam and islands in the backyard.

The neighborhood kids came over, and it was fun to watch Rene narrate the entire fantasy in which they all played. Who knew that dirt could be so much fun?

However, it came as no surprise that chocolate fro-yo could be fun. Mmmmm...hot days equal cool treats.
