Disneyland

One of the clear highlights of our June trip to So Cal was a return to Disneyland. We were very lucky to hit a day with small crowds, although there was still a three hour line to meet Princess Anna and Queen Elsa! Disney staff told me that on many days the line is FIVE hours and that little girls go bonkers if they can't meet these celebrities. What the what? Thankfully our boys were content taking "sneaky peeks" of the Frozen gals with other kids and waving to them during the parade.

Of course, they did wait 20 minutes to secure front row seats for the parade, time quickly passed with ice cream.

The biggest hit of the day was Big Thunder Railway, which the boys raced ride.

Riley was super excited until the ride actually started; then he got spooked. But later in the day he came around. It seems, at nearly age four, he was teetering on the line between fascination and terror with some of these rides. No rush, kiddo, you'll get there.

Star Tours was another giant hit. But Rilz had a mixed reaction to that, too. In the morning it was his favortie ride. In the afternoon -- after missing his nap -- he said it was too scary and cried until I left him walk out right before the ride started. It also appeared he might have been crying because he thought we were going into the Astro-Blasters attraction which we had placed on the verboten list due to gun play. I was reminded that Rene is really at the perfect age for Disneyland -- nothing is off-limits or two scary and he can last all day without a nap -- and that as much as the little ones love the place, we need to gentle with them.

Like riding the Tea Cups -- a big hit!

And Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, another winner.

Despite any hiccups, it truly was a magical day, including a delightful trip to the magic shop. Hey Mickey -- we'll be back!
